A STARRING five-week period has helped Ballarat Pride youngster Gina McCartin to the top of the Victorian Netball League 19-under most valuable player voting.

McCartin, who has been used through the mid-court of late, has racked up 12 points, including three best-on-court performances, in her past five outings.

The prolific period takes McCartin to 19 votes, two clear of Leah Reilly (Yarra Valley Grammar Ariels) and Joanna Weston (Monash University Central).

WHILE success continues to elude the Ballarat Pride championship team, Catherine Maika remains on track to claim a significant piece of silverware.

The star UB Pride goaler is equal with Monash University Central shooter Karyn Bailey in the running for the top division's Hotshot Award.

Maika, who plays her weekend netball with East Point in the Ballarat league, has shot 426 goals in the 13 rounds of competition to date.

Her tally has come from 531 attempts at an average of 80.23 per cent, while Bailey has managed the same total from 490 shots, an average of 86.94 per cent.

The Hotshot Award is awarded to the player who scores the most goals throughout the season, having played a minimum of 28 quarters.

Maika has played 52 terms, and Bailey 45.

Fellow Pride shooter Kathryn Vickers has produced 97 goals from 131 shots (74.05) and Bree Hanslow has shot 44 from 70 (62.86).

Georgia Cann headlines Pride's chances in division one, sitting in fifth with 249 goals from 331 attempts (75.23), while Chelsea Ross is 10th in the 19-under standings with 181 goals from 249 shots (72.69).
