COMMONWEALTH Games-bound racewalker Jared Tallent confirmed his preparations for Delhi are on track with an an emphatic win in the Victorian 30-kilometre championship at Albert Park on Sunday.
Tallent from Ballarat and Essendon's Chris Erickson turned their last competitive outing before the Games in October into a two-way battle.
They showed a clean pair of heels from the outset, surging through the 10 kilometres more than two minutes ahead of their nearest rival.
Erickson was the first to make a break, establishing a 10-metre gap over Tallent as the race approached halfway.
The dual Olympic medallist responded _ reeling him in, passing through the 20-kilometre mark.
Tallent, 25, extended his margin for the rest of the event to stop the clock at two hours, eight minutes, 27 seconds.
He had a winning margin of 62 seconds
Tallent was pleased with the hit-out.
''At the moment I'm still getting a lot of base work done, before we start getting into our speed work for Delhi, but it was good to come down here and race the 30 kilometres,'' he said.
Tallent will contest the 20 kilometres with Erickson and Luke Adams at the Commonwealth Games.
''(The race) panned out alright, but it got tough towards the end. It was very windy in the last 10 kilometres
''I dropped about a minute of time, but I'm still very happy with the result,'' he said.
Ballarat Harriers' Kelly Ruddick continued her fine form by claiming victory ahead of junior national representative Beth Alexander and Tallent's wife Claire, who has also been selected for Delhi.
