IMPORT Drake Reed has been cleared to play with the Ballarat Miners in the South East Australian Basketball League tonight.
He will debut against Albury-Wodonga Bandits at Albury.
Reed from the United States was forced to sit out the Miners' opening two games after failing to have a visa approved by the Department of Immigration and Citizenship. He frustratingly watched the Wes Davidson Real Estate
Miners lose to Bendigo Braves and then defeat Mt Gambier Pioneers at the weekend.
"He's officially on board," head coach Guy Molloy said.
A power forward from Clarkesville, Tennessee, Reed has arrived in Australia with a huge reputation from Austin Peay State in the NCAA division one competition.
He had an outstanding 2008-09, with 30-plus points in seven games, 18 games with 20 or more points, six double-doubles and a career high game average of 21.9 points.
Reed's inclusion means the Miners will be at full strength - completing the complement of recruits, which also features Dan Joyce, Jared Scoine, Tariq Naqqash, Ryan Barnes and Sam Borner.
For the second time in as many weeks, the Miners face two games in as many days. They follow the Albury-Wodonga assignment with a clash against North West Tasmania in Ballarat tomorrow night.
NW Tasmania Thunder will also have its import Shawntes Gary for the first time after he too was left without a visa for the opening week of the season.
