BALLARAT middle distance runners are planning to lay everything on the line in the Sportz Biz Ballarat 10-kilometre Classic on Sunday, September 12.
The classic lived up to its name when last run in March last year.
Teenager Duer Yoa and Shane Nankervis had a classic battle on a new course for the event.
Yoa, who is no longer competing, took advantage of a hesitation by Nankervis with 50 metres to go and took line honours by a second.
Ballarat Regional Athletic Centre member clubs are again poised to have a large representation.
The event is not only restricted to individual competitors chasing the major prize.
There are also teams categories over the 10km: corporate (must work for the same company), family (four members of the same family), sporting (members of non-athletic sporting clubs), athletic (registered members of athletic club), secondary school
(students) and social.
For those better suited to a shorter distance, the classic will incorporate a "Central Business District Dash" and schools challenge over 3km.
The primary and secondary school teams are made up of eight members, with the best aggregate time of six runners declared the winner.
The 10km classic will comprise two laps of the course beginning at the Town Hall and taking in Sturt and Victoria Streets before finishing at the eastern end of the Bridge Mall.
The two 3km events also start at the Town Hall.
Postal entries, which can be sourced on the Sportz Biz website, close on Wednesday, September 8.
Entries will be taken on the day between 7.30am and 8am.
The 3km events will start at 8.45 - 15 minutes after the classic field sets off.
