COMMONWEALTH Games and world championship marathon runner Shane Nankervis and Tracey Fraser are considered the ones to beat in tomorrow's Ballarat Sportzbiz 10km Classic.Early registered entries for the road race have surpassed last year's total with 403 for the 10km and 3km CBD dash.Organiser Paul Hayes tips more than 100 people will register tomorrow morning."It has been full on, but everything has gone smoothly,'' he said."We have got all the pre-entries sorted and we have got the numbers and tags for the people who will be running ready for distribution.''The 10km leg begins at the Town Hall, with competitors lapping Sturt and Lydiard streets and finishing at Sportzbiz in the Bridge Mall. The 3km dash will also begin at the Town Hall, follow Lydiard St and finish at Sportzbiz.Hayes tipped Nankervis, youngster Duer Yoa, Ash Watson, Sam Ellis and last year's winner Paul Fenn to battle for top line honours. In the women, Fraser and Rachel Gibney are likely winners with Michelle Hawkes and Megan Gellert major challengers.Race numbers will be available for collection from Sportzbiz between 1.30pm and 4pm today or before 8am tomorrow.Hayes said the aim was to have more than 800 entrants in the next few years."When it first started we used to get 600 to 700 people running so our goal over the next couple of years is to get over 800 runners,'' he said."I think it's a unique event to be able to run through the CBD of a major town."The timing is also good because it's in-between seasons so it's good for people getting ready for the footy and netball seasons."Winners get a pair of running shoes and $150 cash. The 10km event begins at 8.30am with the 3km dash at 8.45am.
