BALLARAT Miners have injected new life into their South East Australian Basketball League season with back-to-back wins.
The Miners stunned Brisbane 91-58 in Ballarat on Saturday night to end a four-game losing streak and then ran over Frankston 92-67 at Frankston yesterday.
Head coach Guy Molloy was rapt to see the Wes Davidson Real Estate Miners' fortunes turn around.
"It's a shot in the arm.''
Molloy was impressed with all facets of his players' contributions.
"We contested everything with real purpose.''
He said this enabled the Miners to stop Brisbane and Frankston from making sustained runs and taking control.
Molloy said the players had gone through a period of adversity and been able to work their way out of it.
He said there were times when struggling teams tried too hard.
He believed Ballarat had fallen into this trap with players trying to do too much and cutting across the roles of others.
The Miners stuck to their strengths as individuals through each of the weekend's games and reaped the benefits to climb back into the fourth position in the east conference.
Molloy was particularly encouraged by the form of his bench and what he believes is the "arrival'' of first-year import Drake Reed.
Reed shot 23 points against Brisbane Spartans and 32 against Frankston.
He said Reed had taken a while to settle into his new surroundings, but now looked to have found his feet in the SEABL and this had made a difference.
Molloy is keen for Reed to become a more effective rebounder and says that will come.
The coach said his young bench led by Ryan Barnes and Adam McSwain had been full of energy and provided the type of support required.
The challenge for the Miners now is to maintain it.
