Smeaton defeats Daylesford to secure a thrilling victory

SMEATON defeated Daylesford by one shot to secure a thrilling victory on the road in yesterday’s midweek division one pennant match.The visitors won an arm-wrestle with the hosts to claim the match 74 shots to 73, despite losing two rinks to the opposition.Esma Slater’s Smeaton team of Keren May, Bill Coscrave and Maxine Rousch conquered their rink with a 29 to 17 shot victory.But across the green, Rhonda Armstrong’s team went down by two shots to Daylesford’s Lois Voterakis and Helen Mizzeni lost to Daylesford’s Donna Robinson by nine shots.Taking away a win on the road was not to be for Creswick, which lost its match by 19 shots to Avenue.The Bacchus Marsh side proved indestructible at home to win all three rinks.Beth Huntley’s Creswick team put up a fight against Avenue’s Dot Cook, but the home-team was too strong and won the rink by a shot.Webbcona was also comfortable at home to secure a 24-shot triumph over Learmonth.Ann Gull’s Webbcona team won by 15, but Coral Crawford had a bigger challenge on her hands in Marg Lakey’s Learmonth team.Lakey and Crawford had a close battle that ended in a 25-all draw.
