FORMER 100m world champion Kim Collins is in the hunt for Stawell Gift glory this Easter. The St Kitts and Nevis speedster, who claimed the global sprint crown in 2003, has been confirmed for the heats of the 120m gift, to be run on Saturday, April 23.The 35-year-old, who won gold at the 2002 Commonwealth Games, joins a bumper field of runners chasing the $40,000 winner’s purse.Reigning Australian 100m champion Aaron Rouge-Serret and 2009 Gift finalist Matt Davies are set for a return to Central Park, while three of the nation’s top one-lappers – reigning national 400m champion Ben Offereins, Commonwealth Games relay gold medallist Kevin Moore and Australian 400m hurdles champion Brendan Cole – will also compete.Rouge-Serret was excited by the prospect of Collins starting in the Gift.“Having Kim race at Stawell this year is going to benefit everyone,” Rouge-Serret said.“He’s currently in great form and he’s going to be one of the ones to watch out for, one of the ones to beat. He’s going to be in racing shape and definitely going to come home strong in the last 20m.”Rouge-Serret, a regular at the Stawell carnival, expected to be in good form for a tilt at this year’s crown.“I’ll be going up to Stawell a week after nationals so I’ll be in pretty quick shape and can hopefully be up there with some of the boys in the Gift,” he said. The elite male sprinters add their name to a long list of Australian athletics stars who will make the trip to Stawell, joining Tamsyn Lewis, Mel Breen, Lauren Boden, Linda Allen, Simon Patmore and distance star Craig Mottram, who will take on the African runners over the much-anticipated two-mile event. The 130th Stawell Gift will be staged over the Anzac Day long weekend.
