Taste for Aussie cricket lures Trower Down Under for "scorching" summer

A TASTE of cricket Aussie-style lured Jonathon Trower from England to Ballarat's Northern Oval.

The batting specialist has been tipped to cement a spot in North Ballarat's first XI top order by Christmas _ and the club has only seen him in the nets.

A change in work status back in Britain prompted Trower to seize the moment and pull on the whites for a spell in the Ballarat Cricket Association.

Trower had always wanted to play the game "overseas" and was keen to test his skills "against the youngsters of Australia".

Former North cricketer Alex Cann had spread the word Trower was looking for a game, North was interested and Trower has been impressed with the club since arriving at training last week.

"It's brilliant. All the guys have made me welcome," Trower said.

"I haven't played a game yet but the standard seems right up there with English cricket.

"These guys are a lot more committed _ if you even suggested training on a Tuesday night you would have just been laughed at.

"It's just phenomenal how many guys have been turning up and the season hasn't even started yet."

Trower arrives at North Ballarat from Sheffield United in the South Yorkshire Cricket League and holds minor counties experience from his time with Berkshire.

Acclimatisation has been his biggest concern in adapting to Australian cricket ovals.

Trower looked forward to stepping up to the crease tomorrow so he can get some good solid cricket under his belt before the "scorching" Ballarat summer sets in.
