NORTH Ballarat Roosters have made two new coaching appointments for the defence of their Victorian Football League premiership.Former Rooster Shane Snibson has returned to the flock as defence coach. His predecessor Rob Waters has become Roosters' development and reserves coach, replacing newly appointed North Ballarat Rebels TAC Cup under-18 coach Glenn Wilkins.Waters relished the new challenge after building the number one VFL back-line in 2008, his first season with the Selkirk Roosters.Waters is now responsible for bringing his reserves players up to standard, mentally and physically, with the senior game plan and team culture to slip seamlessly into the senior line-up when needed."It'll be a big learning curve, but for me it's a great opportunity to develop my coaching. I'm really blessed to have another season with the Roosters," Waters said."We won the flag with the best back-line in the competition."The reserves finished seventh with the third best back-line, so that's a great starting point."Snibson rejoins the Roosters from senior coaching duties in the Ballarat Football League at Redan. The former VFL state representative player looked forward to leading some of his old Roosters' team-mates and seeing how much football had changed at the elite level since he left in 2004.And, he was well aware he had big shoes to fill."My players keep telling me they had the best back-line in the business," Snibson said."Part of taking this job was to look at things more specifically in the game."The back six already operate well together."I'm there to support them, back them up and help the six set their aims with my guidance and direction."I'll offer a fresh ideas and perspective."Waters and Snibson joined the Roosters' coaching staff - Leigh Marriot (midfield), Paul Aikman (forward) and Gerard FitzGerald (head coach) - and playing list for the team's annual pre-season leadership and development camp at Lorne at the weekend. It was a chance for the pair to settle into their new roles before the Christmas break.Neither said they felt any added individual pressure in the wake of a premiership season."That started, as a team, four weeks ago when pre-season training began," Waters said."We'll just set the basics and go through the processes again, aiming for the same result."
