Stung by a loss to Casey, the Selkirk Roosters produced their most attacking brand of football for the season to thump Box Hill by 54 points. Before cutting loose though to reach 18.11 (119) to 10.5 (65), North Ballarat was at its defensive best.Roosters coach Gerard FitzGerald highlighted the consistency and effectiveness of their tackling as pivotal to the outcome. He said having laid just nine tackles in the last quarter against Casey, everyone knew this was not good enough and that this work rate had to lift.North Ballarat responded in the best possible way with more than 80 tackles, with the effort off the football particularly pleasing for FitzGerald. For the Roosters' brains trust, the way in which they dispensed of Box Hill also reflected the positive nature in which the players responded to the previous week's defeat.Box Hill had a handy wind at its back in the opening term, but the Roosters put the squeeze on it and kept the home combination to just three goals.North Ballarat appeared set to suffer the same fate when it was its turn.Battling to break out of a defensive frame of mind, it took nine minutes to goal.Even then it took an opportunist piece of crumbing by the experienced Corey Jones to break the shackles. That was all that was required to open the floodgates.North Ballarat kicked six goals to open up a 27-point break and then another five in the third quarter to lead by 44 points and have the game in its keeping. The Roosters had major contributors in every department to ensure they made it three wins in four rounds.North Melbourne's Josh Smith and Daniel Pratt dominated - Smith up front with three goals and much more, and Pratt in defence.Osteitis pubis disrupted Smith's pre-season and he is only now beginning to show the form which has made him invaluable in two North Ballarat premierships.Pratt has not spent a lot of time with the Roosters. He has taken a few outings to fully settle into their backline, but is now complementing the old firm of Shaune Moloney, Marc Greig and Matt Sharkey as if he has been alongside them for years.Moloney was right at the top of his game as Box Hill was restricted to just two goals in the second and third quarters.Matt Tyler provided a bonus for the Roosters with three goals. Recruited as key defender, Tyler helped spark North Ballarat with his big body troubling an already stretched Hawthorn-aligned Box Hill.Nick Peters continued his improvement with a hard tag, while Orren Stephenson, Myles Sewell and Steve Clifton all played pivotal roles as the Roosters strolled away with the game.
