VFL: Roosters eye top-two finish

12 Jul, 2010 12:51 AM
REIGNING premier North Ballarat can start thinking about another top-two finish in the Victorian Football League.

The Roosters have the draw to secure first or second for the third season in a row.

Fresh from accounting for the 13th-placed Gold Coast by 29 points in a low-scoring affair in Ballarat on Saturday, the Roosters face five of the bottom six teams in the remaining six home and away rounds.

This gives them a big chance of going into the finals on a 10-game winning streak.

Port Melbourne (fifth) is the only top eight combination awaiting the Selkirk Roosters in the run home.

North Ballarat won its first VFL premiership from second position two years ago and then claimed its first minor premiership before going on to a second flag.

Second-placed North Ballarat is engaged in a three-way tussle with Williamstown and Casey Scorpions for top spot, with each on 10 wins and two losses, and has a run home which could give them an edge.

The Roosters remaining opponents in the home and away season:

*Round 13: Frankston (14th and last)- beaten by North Ballarat by 83 points in round five.

*Round 14: Port Melbourne (fifth) - yet to meet North Ballarat.

*Round 15: Werribee Tigers (11th) - beaten by North Ballarat by 51 points in round six.

*Round 16: Coburg Tigers (10th) - beaten by North Ballarat by 10 points in round one

*Round 17: Sandringham (ninth) - beaten by North Ballarat by 13 points in seven.

*Round 18: Geelong (12th) - defeated North Ballarat by nine points in round eight.
