VFL: Smith adds potency Roosters' attack

22/08/2008 12:57:00 AM
NORTH BALLARAT has regained pivotal forward Josh Smith for its clash with Tasmania in the Victorian Football League in Hobart tomorrow.

Smith has recovered from a knee injury which had threatened to derail his season.

He has missed three games.

Smith was close to season-best form with 10 goals over two appearances before he was struck down by a knee problem on the training track for North Melbourne.

While the AFL-listed Smith is a definite starter for the Selkirk Roosters, they will not finalise their line-up until after North Melbourne determines its team today.

Smith was last night one of seven additions to the combination which suffered a shock eight-point loss to Northern Bullants on Saturday.

He was joined by Stevie Dinnell, Billy Driscoll, Stephen Owen, Ben Taylor, and North Melbourne duo Corey Jones and Sam Power.

Jones and Power have been in good form for North Melbourne, and it is difficult to imagine them dropping back to the VFL.

The inclusion of Dinnell and Driscoll on an extended bench underlines North Ballarat's need to improve its strength at ground level in attack.

The lack of crumbing goal kickers stood out like a beacon against Northern Bullants.

Dinnell has had a chequered season owing to recurring hamstring problems.

He has been limited to just 10 games, including only four senior appearances, the last of which was on June 21.

Driscoll has played 10 senior matches this season, but was left out for the Northern Bullants battle.

North Ballarat might go to Tasmania without Ed Lower, who is part of an extended interchange for North Melbourne which also features Jones and Power.

*North Ballarat has a bye for the last round of the VFL reserves home-and-away season.

The Roosters' season is over, having missed the finals.

16/12/2008 | So we now have desperate parents attempting to bribe teachers to get their children into a selective high school. What a sad indictment of our education policies, the holy grail of which is parental choice.
