BALLARAT District Golf Association is joining forces with a group of professional players to attract more juniors to the sport.
The BDGA junior sub-committee has linked up with Ballarat Golf Club professional Dominic Azzopardi, Midlands' Mike Cooke and Angela Tatt, Ben Roberts from the Ballarat driving range and schools development officer Tony
Collier, to create a program.
Clinics and tournaments are planned for school holidays and the last Sunday of each month - beginning with Buninyong on Wednesday, January 14, and Midlands on Friday, January 30.
Mt Xavier and Ballarat will also host events as the year progresses.
BDGA junior sub-committee representative Ivan Cato said each of the initial days would run from 11am and feature one-hour coaching sessions led by professionals, and nine or 18 holes of golf.
He said not having a set of clubs should not be a deterrent for anyone wanting to try the game for the first time, with equipment available for newcomers.
Cato said, depending on the number of entries, there would be up to six events for various age groups up to under 18.
These will cater for youngsters with and without handicaps.
"We're encouraging boys and girls to join in," he said.
