Zoolander chasing run in the final

03 Nov, 2009 11:19 PM
"HE'S in the veteran category but is still racing as well as ever."

That's how trainer Cameron Bahen described his chaser Zoolander, who will contest a heat of the Ballarat Greyhound Club Committee grade five at Morshead Park tonight.

Zoolander is the kennel star, having already posted 30 career wins, earning connections in excess of $50,000 in prizemoney.

The son of Hot Chill is a reliable beginner from the boxes, and has the unique statistic of having won from each box draw throughout his career.

Zoolander will tonight jump from box four in the third of eight heats to be run over the new 390-metre distance.

"Box draws certainly don't worry me as he is generally quick out," Bahen said.

But it hasn't all been plain sailing for Zoolander, who tore a back muscle at Warrnambool in February.

"We don't give him too much work during the week these days due to his age and his recent injury, but he just comes out and tries his heart out at each race start," Bahen said.

Since returning to the track Zoolander has notched up two wins and two second placings from just six starts. Others in contention in an open race are Born Princess and Our Abby.

Born Princess, for Warrnambool trainer Noel Mugavin, has won four of her last five starts, and was an impressive winner at Geelong last Friday night.

Born Princess also likes to lead in her races and will jump from inside Zoolander in box three.

The winning greyhounds from each of the eight heats will advance to the final to be run next Wednesday night.

* BALLARAT Greyhound Racing Club has set a new Victorian record.

The club received a whopping 286 nominations for tonight's race meeting, eclipsing the previous record 284.
