NEW Zealanders are poised to stake a major claim for the group one $125,000 PETstock Ballarat Pacing Cup, 2710 metres, on Saturday night.
With Kiwi-trained Australian horse of the year and reigning Inter-Dominion pacing champion Mr Feelgood already committed to making the trip to Bray Raceway, Bondy and Our Awesome Armbro have also had their hats thrown in the ring for the grand circuit event.
Bondy and Our Awesome Armbro are among 23 nominations, which closed today.
Bondy has won four of his past five starts in NZ, while Our Awesome Armbro is a last-start NZ winner and was third in last year’s group one Auckland Cup.
Smoken Up heads the entries, which also feature Queensland champion Be Good Johnny, last year’s Ballarat Pacing Cup winner Mister Swinger and last-start South Australian Cup winner Mister Zion.
The Russell Cook-trained Make Waves is the only Ballarat district pacer among entries.
The field will be declared on Wednesday morning.
