A new boss in Ballarat

THREE-TIME Melbourne Cup winning jockey Glen Boss had his first win as a "true blue" Victorian in Ballarat yesterday.And appropriately Boss saluted on the Danny O'Brien-trained Stratella ($3.30 equal favourite) in Leading Teams Australian 0-72 Handicap for fillies and mares, 1400m.Boss moved from Sydney to Melbourne at the end of spring carnival.Although he is freelancing, O'Brien has committed to support the champion hoop as much as possible. Boss had two rides for the O'Brien stable yesterday for a first and second.Originally from Queensland, Boss said the move was a breath of fresh air for his career.He said there was a lot to like about racing in Victoria."Victorian racing is really positive."There's a lot more people getting a piece of the pie."Boss said Sydney racing tended to be dominated by a few.He said he was pleased with support he was already getting from a variety of trainers."Boss plans to be a regular at major provincial tracks such as Ballarat.Yesterday was his "second or third" time riding at Dowling Forest.However, the previous visits were not enough to stop him getting lost trying to find the racecourse."I took a wrong turn," he said with a wry grin.Boss was for a long time the group one king of the saddle in Australia.He is best known for riding Makybe Diva to three consecutive Melbourne Cup victories.
