Ballarat Cup field: Six hometown hopes line up

NEW Zealand stayer Gallions Reach will carry the top weight in the listed $130,000 Sportsbet.com.au Ballarat Cup, 2200 metres, on Wednesday.

Gallions Reach, which ran in the Melbourne Cup, will carry 57.5 kilograms.

The field features two past Ballarat Cup winners - Sentire (2007) and Daka's Gem (2008).

Ballarat stables will have their biggest representation for many years with six hometown runners - Sylvan O'Reilly (trained by Barry James), Golden Charmer (Dan O'Sullivan), Speak Of The Devil (Damien Hunter), Kinugawa (Go Shigemi), Oak Heart (Darren Weir) and Red Riviera (Terry Kelly).

Ballarat Turf Club has programmed a 10-race program, with the first event to be run at 11.50am.

The cup will be at 4pm.
