IT'S taken 13 starts, but consistent place-getter Undiscovered finally found his winning form at Ballarat yesterday.
The four-year-old Darren Weir-trained galloper had placed in 10 of his 12 outings prior to his four-and-a-half length trouncing of his rivals in a 1600m maiden.
Undiscovered was sent out a popular favourite and delivered under the clever riding of Ballarat-based apprentice Jacob Rule, who kicked the horse clear in the home straight to record the easiest of victories.
Weir said it was finally good to break through with what had been a "frustrating" horse.
"A couple of them you could probably say he's been unlucky, but a few of them he has been ridden well and just didn't win," Weir said.
"It was good to get a win on the board."
Undiscovered, a gelding by High Yield out of Alunarmist, debuted with a second-placing at Stawell in January this year before registering placings at his next two starts before a 23-week spell.
His current preparation began with a first-up third at Donald in late August and has seen the chestnut place in six of his next nine before yesterday's success.
Jockey Linda Meech enjoyed a winning treble at Ballarat yesterday.
Meech took until race four to being up her first winner of the day aboard the Peter Moody-trained Coeur D'Amour before securing a race-to-race double with Terry Kelly's Testa Rocca.
Meech helped continue Cranbourne trainer Nikki Burke's hot run of form with victory on Adams Bell.
Hoop Mark Pegus grabbed a winning double yesterday with wins on Valentine Blues for Rick Hore-Lacy and Clanger Count for Lee and Shannon Hope.
