RECRUITMENT for Ballarat Pride's expanding empire will be sourced from the region's untapped talent.
Ballarat Netball Association president and Pride co-coach Jo Dash said priority for Pride spots would be given to players in Western Victoria and Bendigo for next season's new state league format.
The core squad would be made up of Ballarat netballers.
Under the incoming Victorian Netball League squad, all associations must field three teams: a championship, division one and 19-under youth team.
Dash said all recruiting plans would remain on hold until an inaugural VNL meeting on Sunday, in which Netball Victoria will outline the finer details of the competition for all associations.
"We want to wait until we sit down with the league before we go running off making any decisions," Dash said.
"We're not saying anything at the moment but we have talked broadly with Hampden, Warrnambool, Bendigo and the Wimmera."
Dash said Pride's current division one state league campaign was top priority with finals four weeks away.
The Ballarat Netball Association was confident it could field high-quality teams, starting with its strong junior contingent and existing Pride playing list.
Dash said fielding a championship division team would lure top players from across the region, some who already travel to Melbourne for the elite competition.
"We're prepared to build," Dash said.
"We've got three teams to get on and a core base of solid players but there's a lot of untapped talent out there, many who might not have considered state league before."
Dash said the association would consider recruiting models of bringing players to Ballarat schools and universities, similar to methods used by the North Ballarat Football Club's Roosters and Rebels programs.
