Months of hard work pay off

A TOP squad of 18 junior basketballers have been selected to represent Ballarat at national tournaments in January next year.

The announcement came after months of playing, training and an anxious wait around the letterbox.

Players will represent Country Victoria at either the Australian Country Cup in Albury-Wodonga, or the Pacific Coast Slam in Port Macquarie.

Both events have teams competing from all over Australia and New Zealand.

"Winning a place in the team immediately pits a player against some of the very best going around," Ballarat Basketball Association events and administration manager Mark Valentine said.

The youngsters earned selection after competing at the Victorian Country Club championships, or at the Golden Nugget Camp for 14-under players.

Meanwhile, BBC's Rob Baker has been named head coach of the Port Macquarie side.
