North City's footballers have broken the Ballarat Football League zero with a shock six-point victory over top six team East Point.
The hard fought victory follows the netball team's breakthrough against Darley the previous Saturday.
Balben North City playing coach Aaron Clark said, while it was just one win, the club and the players deserved to celebrate it.
"It was very emotional. I think more so for the people around the club than the players themselves," Clark said.
"This has been a nine year work in progress for the (North Ballarat) junior club and that shouldn't be forgotten. A lot of hard work has happened for us to get to this point and it was against a very good team, so why not enjoy it?"
Just as remarkable was that the win came after a five-day break, with North City forced to make six changes due to injury and unavailability.
"(The recovery) was a credit to the group's professionalism," Clark said. "But I think the five-day break was always a mental rather than physical issue."
East Point was also missing three of its best players in Shane Hutchinson, Dan Jordan and Chris Banwell.North City's victory was one of four results in RegionalOne BFL round eight that, while not
necessarily upsets, were interesting in the context of last season.
Three of last year's bottom four - Darley, Lake Wendouree and Bacchus Marsh - beat three of last year's finalists on Saturday.
