THREE Ballarat rowers have a nervous wait for an announcement that could shape their futures in the sport.
Rowing trio Blair Brown, Tom Swann and Nicholas Rhodes are hoping to be among four rowers selected from across the nation to take on two-year scholarships at the Australian Institute of Sport.
They have returned this week from the five-day Breaking the Drought AIS Rowing Camp at the Canberra institute.
The AIS hopes the camp will unearth future stars and help break Australia's 50-year drought in world class sculling performances.
The 20 youngsters who attended the camp are eyeing off the scholarships.
The announcement of the lucky four recipients will be made on Wednesday, December 7.
Swann, 18, said a scholarship would help kickstart his career.
"It would be good to get but you can't really tell what might happen," he said.
The trio were put through rigorous health and fitness testing procedures during the camp.
Brown, 18, said the tests were done to uncover potential that could take Australia to the top of the world in rowing.
"The tests were to see how much talent you have and to show what you could become," he said.
"The AIS was also looking to see who had showed the most improvement during the camp."
