Ballarat volleyball squad a Phantom menace for rivals

01 Oct, 2009 12:25 AM
A BALLARAT women's team will have plenty of motivation at this weekend's Victorian Open Volleyball Championships.

Ballarat Phantoms, which is a similar team to the one that made an early exit from the Victorian Volleyball League division two women finals, will contest the championships this Saturday and Sunday in Mornington.

Vic West Phantoms enjoyed a successful 2009 VVL home and away season, but were dumped from the competition in the opening week of finals with a 3-2 loss to Monash University 1.

Ballarat will take a squad of eight to the championships, striving to make up for the disappointment of their missed opportunity at league level.

The Ballarat girls will make the step up to the top competition this weekend after contesting division two in past seasons.

Ballarat will be without a men's team at the annual championships.

BALLARAT PHANTOMS

Hollie Radomski (captain), Fiona Adriaans, Sarah McPhee, Krissy Sharkey, Rachel McIntosh, Georgie Hassell, Claire Mackay, Lori Carroll.
