The Ballarat Show has been part of the Ballarat community since 1856 and is a much anticipated and loved event.
The show is a major three-day event for Ballarat and involves an army of volunteers, exhibitors, competitors, community groups, services organisations, committees and staff for the event to happen.
However the show does automatically happen. It requires a dedicated approach from the volunteers of the society, the completion of a comprehensive business plan, event management and risk management plan as well as complying to all regulations and permits from government bodies and other organisations such as WorkSafe, Energy Safe Victoria and City of Ballarat. A great importance was placed on the safety of competitors and show patrons.
The show today is much more than rides and showbags.
The 2012 show involved many community organisations and had an atmosphere of the shows of old. A strong agricultural and animal focus was evident with horses, cattle, sheep, goats, cats, donkeys, budgerigars and rabbits all on show. The range of entertainment was outstanding, focused towards children and families at an affordable entry fee.
The quality of life in Ballarat is healthy and strong. Community events such as the Ballarat Show makes us feel part of a community. It makes me very proud to be a citizen of Ballarat. I love its community spirit.
Thanks again for all that were involved and may the show continue to gain support and grow.
