Justin Kristopher Giovanetti, 24, appeared in Ballarat Magistrates Court yesterday where he pleaded guilty to the burglary and theft on August 3.
The court heard Giovanetti was with three others when they drove to the victim’s Wendouree home, using a sledge hammer to remove a safe they knew was inside.
They found $7000 cash, as well as chequebooks, passports and jewellery.
Police later found some of the stolen items when they raided another house.
Three gold rings were found in a sewer, having been flushed down the toilet, while the charred remains of other jewellery was found in the backyard.
