Pop Up Ballarat has opened for just seven days in the Backspace Gallery off Camp Street.
Co-organiser Laura Day said it was exciting to see the crowd pouring through the doors after they opened at 11am.
“I’m a maker myself and I thought it would be a really great idea to bring a pop-up shop to Ballarat,” Ms Day said.
“I’m from Melbourne and they’re quite familiar with them there, but it’s a new concept for Ballarat.
“Being an artist and a creative person myself, I’ve met a lot of locally talented people who have to travel to Melbourne or elsewhere to do markets.”
Ms Day and Lisa Cressey organised more than 21 stalls, including jewellery, stationery, screen-printed cushions and bags and children’s toys, for the pop-up shop, which will be open again this Thursday to Sunday from noon to 4pm, with late night shopping next Friday.
“We’ve already got people asking when we’re doing another one, so it’s already got a lot of community support.
“It’s the perfect opportunity for some pre-Christmas shopping.”
Ms Day said the Backspace Gallery was the ideal venue for the event.
“It’s a good venue because it’s different to your usual craft markets and it shows the products off in the best light.”
