Wendouree’s off road racing married couple David and Alice Middlemiss were presented with their trophy on Friday at the Confederate of Australian Motorsport Presentation Dinner.
The pair competed in a buggy class over four rounds throughout the year, but won the series outright across all seven divisions.
“We had a bit of an idea we had done well, but they don’t tell you who’s won,” Ms Middlemiss said.
They were overjoyed to find out on the evening they had won overall.
The couple have been racing together for five years, but this year had moved up from the second class.
“We thought we may do better this year after changing class, but had no idea that we’d do this well.”
They won outright at the Griffith 350 New South Wales state round, Bendigo state round and Moyston, a Geelong club round.
“Racing is 90 per cent preparation and 10 per cent racing – we do all our preparation ourselves so it’s really paid off,” she said.
“But it’s not all about winning – it’s about having a go.”
Next year, Middlemiss Racing plans to move up a class again, competing in the ARB Australian Off-Road Racing Series.
“It will involve a lot more long races – the courses haven’t been released yet but they can be around 400 kilometres.”
