The 20-year-old biomedical science student was one of 100 Victorians to be presented with the prestigious achievement award during a ceremony at Government House in Melbourne last week.
Ms Henderson said she started the Gold Award as a year 10 student at Ballarat Grammar.
It challenged her to set goals across the five different areas of physical recreation, skill, service, adventurous journey and a residential project.
“Participating in a building project in India was an amazing experience,” she said.
“I’ve continued my interest in volunteering and plan to return to India to see the completed building.
“It’s opened my eyes to what I want to do for the rest of my life: be a doctor for those who really need it.”
