The Ballarat Region Commission was set up after an extensive process, seeking out suitably qualified and experienced candidates from across the district.
It follows one of the key recommendations from the 2011 AFL Review of Football in Country Victoria, which stated that 13 region commissions should be responsible for the strategic direction and planning of football across regional and rural Victoria.
Tim Bunning will chair the inaugural commission.
Bunning is a former chairman of the Ballarat Football League and is a former director and vice-president of the Victorian Country Football League.
He brings extensive experience in accountancy and finance from his professional career.
Bunning is joined by Sue Brown, Lloyd Sims, Roger Le Grand, Craig Fletcher, Adam McSwain, Troy Driscoll and Justin Mullane on the panel.
The commission will incorporate the Ballarat, Maryborough Castlemaine District and Central Highlands leagues, the Ballarat Football Umpires Association and junior football structures associated with the competitions.
Following the establishment of the commission, the next phase will be for the respective leagues, clubs and associations to become its members, while maintaining their current affiliation with the VCFL.
A Ballarat general manager will be appointed to manage the strategic direction of football in the region in consultation with the members and under the guidance of the commission.
