COUNCIL rangers have euthanised a dingo that stole a British tourist’s bag containing thousands of dollars worth of antique jewellery from Jimmys Beach, north of Newcastle.
Police said the 58-year-old woman, who was staying in the Hawks Nest area, had her bag taken by the bold canine on December 12.
Port Stephens police searched the area for several hours but found no trace of the bag or its contents.
A Great Lakes Council ranger was called in to track the dingo, locating and killing it the next day.
The dingo, nicknamed ‘‘One Sock’’ by locals due to having one predominantly white leg, had been the subject of numerous complaints over the past three months.
