This year’s field includes back-to-back BDBD singles champion Rob Baker from Sebastopol, Central Wendouree’s Greg Brown, Brett Mahoney from Webbcona and Victoria Bowling Club’s Jarrad Burt.
In addition, there will be many other quality bowlers who have each won their club championships.
This is the opportunity for everyone to see some of Ballarat’s best singles bowlers in action in the first and second knock out rounds of the division’s blue ribbon singles event.
First-round matches are set to get under way at 10am, with a 9.45am roll up.
The first-named bowler is to provide a marker.
G. Sargent (Avenue) v B. Wilcock (Buninyong); J. Taylor (Smeaton) v D. Denham (Midlands Golf); N. Campbell (Ballarat) v A. Baird (Clunes); L. Whitehead (Ballarat East) v B. Mahoney (Webbcona); K. Makings (Ballarat North) v M. Walton (City Oval).
Bowlers required for second round matches, which are scheduled to start at 1pm, after 15 minutes roll up, are:
R. Hicks (Ballan), R. Dickson (BMS), S. Wereszczuk (Beaufort Golf), G. Brown (Central Wendouree), A. Annear (Creswick), D. Kelly (Learmonth), C. Grenfell (Linton), B. Frka (Mt Xavier), R. Baker (Sebastopol), J. Burt (Victoria), M. Molloy (Waubra). Umpire T. Walker, Manager T. Clarke.
The following two rounds will be played on December 31 at City Oval.
* The close matches this week went to BMS in division four and Beaufort division six by three, Bareena in the premiers and BMS in division two by two.
Meanwhile, it was Victoria in the premiers and division six and Midlands Golf in division nine by one.
This week’s tie was between Sebastopol and Buninyong from division four.
* The big winners were Ballarat in division four by 48, BMS in division eight by 53.5, Mt. Xavier in division seven by 53, Clunes in division six by 54, Linton in division three by 56, and the top dogs, Midland Golf, in division eight by 126.25 shots.
Four wins, three losses and a tie almost makes me want to stop selecting winners.
Look out after the new year.
A safe and happy festive season to you all.
Rod Lindsay is the BDBD secretary.
