The pool’s floor and side tiles were also replaced, while the high level ventilation ducts have been cleaned.

Ballarat City Council chief executive officer Anthony Schinck said steam room repairs have also been carried out, including a new non-slip floor surface.

Minor steam room tiling works will be completed soon.

All rusted stainless steel fittings are currently being replaced, with these works to be completed early in the new year.

Corridor change room defects have been fixed and they are now fully operational.

Pool side change room repairs have also been completed.

Mr Schinck said the contract was awarded last week for renovations to the original female and male change rooms, with works expected to begin in February and finish in March.

“We are working to minimise disruption to patrons while we renovate these change rooms to a “new” standard,” Mr Schinck said in a letter to Ballarat Aquatic and Lifestyle Centre members.

“Patrons are asked to use the pool side change rooms during this period.”

Mr Schinck said a new 250,000 litre water tank and solar panels had also been installed to save energy.

The works follow concerns raised in May by local businessman Peter Byrne about the centre’s cleanliness and condition.

Mr Byrne said the men’s change rooms and showers were dirty, along with the gym and pool areas.
