Moorabool Police Senior Detective Brian Malloch said the fire was the second caused by a camp fire in two days in the Ballarat region.
“It is irresponsible and negligent for people to leave without making sure their fires are fully extinguished, especially with the country so dry,” he said.
“We are calling on anyone who saw who left the fire to contact CrimeStoppers.”
Senior Detective Malloch said CFA and Department of Sustainability fire crews quickly extinguished the fire.
