Bowls: 50 teams enter Heartbeat event

FIFTY teams have entered for this Sunday’s Heartbeat Tournament at Webbcona and City Oval bowling clubs.

All clubs have been notified which of the two venues their teams are playing at, with players who are unsure to contact their club communication officer or tournament secretary Nora Thornhill on 5330 1134.

Proceeds from the day will be evenly divided between both Ballarat hospitals, St John of God and the Base Hospital.

Ballarat Division bowlers Tony Wood, Brett Mahoney, Jarrod Burt, Aaron Wood, Ben McArthur, Andrew Myers, Ash McArthur, Glen Sargent and Ian Warner will be representing the Central Victoria Bowls Region in the region fours final at Sunnyside Horsham this weekend.

This is a blue ribbon event for all 16 regions across Victoria. Central Victoria plays Central Goulburn Murray, Northern Gateway and Wimmera regions during the section rounds of the championships

Bowlers and other interested bowling enthusiasts are asked to register their interest in a coach trip to the Australian Bowls Open at Darebin with the BDBD by Monday. Bookings need to be made to work out costings for the trip.

Smeaton will host the BDBD novelty fours run on January 11.

The first round of the women’s state triples is January 22, with entries to be received no later than Monday. Entry forms must be sent as soon as possible so the draw can be done.

Midweek pennant resumes on Monday with round 13.

Predictions for round 14 on January 14:

Avenue to benefit from home green advantage against Smeaton in division one.

Clunes will get up by a small margin in division two against Ballarat North.

Daylesford faces a tough game in division three against Webbcona. It is a must-win for Daylesford and that determination should get them across the line.

Division four ladder leader Smeaton should have the wood over Daylesford.

Rod Lindsay is BDBD secretary. Nora Thornhill is the assistant secretary.
