History gone as Carngham Station destroyed

THE historic Carngham Station was one of the casualties of Tuesday’s fire.

The homestead has long been a large part of Victoria’s rich history, but this isn’t the first time the building has burnt down.

In July 1918 a log rolling from a fireplace resulted in £6000 of damage to the homestead. A reporter for The Courier wrote that only a few stone walls and the chimneys remained of the 45 room dwelling.
