My insurance company has informed me that this is a state government directive that the insurer must charge a 12 month levy now despite the new levy system being introduced as at July 1, 2013 which will be charged by and appear on the council rate notice.
There will be no rebate for any overcharge. One way to avoid this is to only insure your property until 30 June 2013. This also impacts on your GST and state government stamp duty charges.
