BALLARAT had a convincing win taking all four rinks from top four side Mt Xavier in division one of the Ballarat District Bowls Division weekend pennant.
The side won 106-88, moving into second spot on the ladder.
Senior vice president Mark Fothergill said it was a very pleasing result.
“Three of the rinks only had a final difference of one or two shots – so it could’ve gone the other way and we only win one of the rinks,” Fothergill said.
“But we started really strong and had a lead of about 30 shots at around afternoon tea, and they did come back at us.
“It was a good tussle towards the end.”
Three of the rinks only had a difference of one or two shots.
Peter Hopkins defeated Aaron Edmondson’s rink 27-26, Paul Ashmore beat John Maher 27-25, and Wayne Fitzgerald also picked up another two points for Ballarat winning 23-21.
Ballarat’s Andrew Dalgleish was the exception, winning by 13 shots to Beau Adams, 29-16.
“Our rinks are really compatible now, which is what we’ve been striving for all season,” Fothergill said.
Mt Xavier tournament director Brian McKeegan said the side worked hard to close the gap.
“They just got out of the blocks quicker than we did... they got a better start and were really able to capitalise,” McKeegan said.
Buninyong had a narrow victory of two shots over Victoria at 102-100. Buninyong’s Brian Wilcock drew with Victoria’s Tim Slater 23 shots.
