PEACHES, a 10-week old King Charles Cavalier, had her right eye removed in surgery on Saturday after being swiped by a cat.
Owner Crystal Lewis said the incident occurred while seeing her daughters’ nana in Echuca.
“She was playing with Nana’s cat Fev – but Fev took a swipe at her and caught her eye and (the claw) went right through,” Ms Lewis said.
“We took her straight to the vet, Dr John Hill at Echuca Veterinary Clinc, who had a look and said it was irreparable, so he put her under a general anaesthetic to have a closer look and decided the best decision was to remove the eye.
“After she was swiped she was in shock, but when we picked her up she was as happy as ever.”
Peaches was a Christmas present for Ms Lewis’ daughters, four-year-old Suraya and three-year-old Summer.
“She was all wrapped up for Christmas under the tree, but burst out of the wrapping paper before they got to unwrap her.”
Ms Lewis said Suraya and Summer weren’t too traumatised by the incident. “The girls have just accepted it – they say now we’ve got a one-eyed dog and we love her even more.”
Suraya said she loved Peaches. “When she gets to heaven she’ll have two eyes,” she said.
