THE best young female cricketers from around the country and New Zealand begin their under-18 national championships campaigns in Ballarat on Wednesday.
Teams gathered at a 30-minute briefing session at St Patrick’s College last night ahead of the opening day of the tournament, which is being hosted in Ballarat for the second year in a row.
Napoleons-Sebastopol cricketer Sarah Tatchell will represent Victoria in the titles for the second successive season.
The girls will play seven rounds of competition, with a rest day on Saturday, before finals on Tuesday next week.
A team from New Zealand – the Auckland Schoolgirls – will be part of this year’s championships, taking the number of competing sides to eight.
