Central Highlands into U-18 semi-finals

CENTRAL Highlands remain in contention for the Cricket Victoria under-18 male championship.

The Highlanders meet South East Sharks in a semi-final at Toorak Park today – seeking a berth in the final at the MCG on Sunday, February 24.

They continued their unbeaten run with an 84-run win over Gippsland in a quarter final at Melbourne University yesterday.

Central Highlands took a firm grip on the match by making 7-189 after deciding to bat first.

There were some early concerns at 2-14, but Patrick McKenna, 25, and James Lidgett, 33, put the innings back on track with a 57-run stand.

Jarryd Vernon then went to top score with 57, while Jack Peeters, 20, and Jackson Dark, 25 not, kept the score ticking over at the other end.

Then Harrison Travers and Logan Gray did the damage with the ball – picking up eight wickets between them.

Travers knocked over the top three on his way to 3-19 off six overs. Gray tore through Gippsland middle and lower order with 5-19 off eight overs. He was on a hat-trick in his fourth over.
