EMERGING amateur Nathan Holman is the early leader in the Turner Plumbing Victorian PGA Championship at Creswick.
He shot an opening round six-under 66 to get a jump on the field.
Leigh McKechnie has retuirned a four-under 68, while past Victorian PGA Championship titleholder Andre Stolz is three shots back.
Holman, 21, had roller coaster ride - shooting two eagles six birdies, a double bogey and two bogeys.
He looked like tearing the course apart at six-under after 12 holes.
However, having not played beyond the 11th in practice, he did in tougher in the run home with one birdie and one bogey, so was happy to keep it together.
The tournament was not originally on Holman's schedule.
He had planned to play in the Australian Amateur Championship, which begins in Melbourne today, but he missed the entry deadline.
Ballarat touring professional Peter Nolan bounced back from three bogeys on the opening three holes to finish one-over, while Ballarat amateur Craig Boucher had tough day with an 81 on the par 72 lay-out.
