Budding North Ballarat squad show fitness

A BEEP test, speed test and time trial.

It is all in the day of a budding North Brallarat Rebels under-18 footballer.

Well it was yesterday as the Rebels ran their annual summer fitness testing in Ballarat.

More than 100 hopefuls converged on the city from across the Wimmera, south-west Victoria and south-east South Australia looking to impress.

Rebels regional manager Phil Partington said having boys travel from as far away as Robe underlined the enthusiasm in the group.

The testing brought together the members of the Ballarat, Horsham, Warrnambool and Hamilton-based training squads. The beep and speed tests took place at the St Patrick’s College gymnasium, while a three kilometre time trial was held at Lake Wendouree.

This is the first time a time trial has been part of this program.

Partington said it had been used to compare the fitness of the boys with when they had gone to the Christmas-New Year break.

He said more than 90 had personal bests.

The Rebels resume pre-season training on Monday.
