Crack field for Oaks trial

A CRACK field featuring three group 1 winners will line up in the $15,000 AJ Prendergast Oaks Trial, 2200m, at Ballarat harness races on Saturday night.

The Greg Sugars-trained La Machane will take on the Emma Stewart's G1 trio of Shake It Mama, Beauty Secret and Hexham Heartbeat.

The Stewart fillies filled the first three placings in the G1 Vicbred Super Series final for three-year-old fillies at Melton at their latest starts, with Hexham Heartbeat winning from Beauty Secret and Shake It Mama.

They also contested the Victoria Oaks earlier this year, which was won by Beauty Secret.

La Machane is another top class pacer, having being placed in Vicbred Super Series and Australasian Breeders Crown finals last season, and finishing third in the NSW Oaks.

Ballarat and District Trotting Club has programmed a 10-race card, with the first at 6pm.

Unbeaten two-year-old Guaranteed, also from the Smythes Creek stable of Emma Stewart, will be another attraction in the Vicbred Super Series heat for 2yo colts and geldings.

There will also be the return of the Merv White-trained Im Gambaro.

He became a crowd favourite when he won five races in a row, all in Ballarat in late 2010.

This will be his first start since November in that year when he broke down.
