Patrick Libbis, 31, appeared in Ballarat Magistrates Court yesterday where he pleaded guilty to one charge of intentionally causing injury, relating to the November 17 assault.
The court heard that a fight started about 7.30pm outside Libbis’s Redan home, when he “push-kicked” the victim.
Police prosecutor Senior Constable Steve Kent said the co-accused intervened, helping Libbis take charge and repeatedly kick the victim in the head.
He said the fight ended when the victim pleaded for his life, saying to Libbis: “If you keep kicking me in the head you’re going to kill me.”
Libbis then apologised and helped him to his feet.
Defence lawyer David Tamanika said his client’s response demonstrated his remorse.
Mr Tamanika said that while the offending wasn’t excusable, the victim was “a guy known around the neighbourhood”.
Magistrate Jack Vandersteen adjourned sentencing to April 8.
