Pyrenees next in NBN roll out

PYRENEES Shire Council has been named among 14 local government areas to be next in line for the National Broadband Network roll out.

NBN Co named 14 councils in western Victoria and the Wimmera yesterday that were expected to have wireless NBN switched on by mid 2014.

The fixed-wireless network will deliver high-speed broadband to homes and businesses at wholesale speeds up to 150 times faster than dial-up and up to eight times faster than ADSL1.

The National Broadband Network is designed to provide high-speed broadband access to 100 per cent of premises across Australia – approximately 93 per cent of premises by fibre, and the remaining seven per cent via fixed wireless or satellite.
