The carp competition was last year cancelled after organisers were unable to find a location to store dead fish.
However a site at the Burrumbeet Caravan Park has been secured and now Mr Hammond is hell-bent on once again making the lake one of the best redfin lakes in Australia.
The carp competition will be held on February 16 and 17 and after that will run on the second and fourth Saturday of every month.
Mr Hammond said he remembered a time when the lake was abundant with redfin and that he wanted to rejuvenate the lake to what it once was.
“People used to come here from all over the place just to fish for redfin,” he said.
“If you didn’t get there the night before you wouldn’t get a spot the next morning.”
However after the lake dried up, the carp took over and now have a stranglehold over other species in the lake.
So Mr Hammond started a mission to eradicate them.
“It’s too important a project to just shelve just because of red tape,” he said.
A gold coin donation is asked to take part in the eradication effort, which will be held at the Burrumbeet Caravan Park.
