CHFL: Unstoppable Demons belt embattled Towners

BUNGAREE’S seventh win in a row was a 125-point demolition of a hapless Dunnstown on Saturday.

With the game well in hand by half time, the Demons put the Towners to the sword with a nine-goal onslaught in the final term.

Power forward Shaun Finlayson slammed home five of his six goals in the final quarter to earn best on ground honours for the winners.

The Demons dominated from the first bounce.

Luke Mirtschin ignited his team with two goals in the opening five minutes. He added another two in the second term, by which time the game was fast slipping away from the home side.

That Dunnstown was kept goalless for all but the third term was largely due to a watertight defence led by Josh Cahir and Marty Dufty. In a welcome return from injury, Ricky Cummins played the defensive loose man to perfection initiating many attacks for the visitors.

With a three-goal fight back in the third term, the Towners adapted well to the greasy condition, as did some local youngsters who forged an excellent mudslide down the eastern embankment. Who needs social media?

Matt Turner, Alex Lyon and Aaron Brennan all kicked truly while Sam Roache and Paul White toiled hard all day in difficult conditions.

This Saturday, Bungaree will strive to maintain its winning streak when it faces Hepburn in the match of the round, while Dunnstown will look to begin a winning streak at Illabarook.

Bungaree 22.17 (149)

Dunnstown 3.6 (24)
