Teen bag snatcher targets elderly in Ballarat

A BALLARAT teenager who stole handbags from at least three elderly women was arrested and charged by police in Ballarat yesterday.

The 18-year-old is alleged to have snatched three bags from elderly women at various locations in Ballarat.

Police say he knocked an 80-year-old woman to the ground at Stockland Wendouree and also stole handbags in Drummond Street, near the hospitals.

None of the women received serious injuries.

He was arrested by police in nearby Victoria Avenue near Lake Wendouree.

He has been charged with robbery and theft and will appear in court later today.

MEANWHILE, police also caught two teenagers who were trying to steal from Shaw's Cycling Centre in Redan last night.

The pair were caught in the roof of the building about 9.30pm, after trying to steal a number of items from the premises.

They have been charged and bailed and will appear in court at a later date.
