Ballarat's best coffee: your votes revealed

THE BEAN Barn has taken out first place in the most recent Pride of Ballarat poll for Ballarat's best coffee.

"It was interesting to see that nearly 400 people nominated their own coffee shop," she said.

"We can see a lot of old Ballarat favourites and a few new businesses in the mix. It was great to see such a wide cross section of nominations.

Mrs Sweet said the survey showed how much people in Ballarat valued their favourite coffee shop.

Owner, barista and chief coffee roaster for the Bean Barn Richard Emery said the quality of their coffee can be traced to the fact that they roast the beans themselves.

"We do the entire process," Mr Emery said.

"It guarantees that the coffee is fresh. It will always be better tasting of the coffee is fresh than if it is not."

The Bean Barn opened in Ballarat seven years ago and is delighted that his cafe's coffee has been voted the best.

"We wanted to drag Ballarat's coffee into the modern era when we opened.

"We put in effort, we have expertise and it's our passion — that's why our coffee is so good.

"We are a real cafe, in 'cafe's' real translation — we're about coffee."
